Photo Contest Winners

So about two weeks ago I noted here that Alvin Plantinga seems to have a mild obsession with the Taj Mahal.

I also proposed a photo contest for the best photoshopped pics of Plantinga there "in person" (wonder if he's ever been).

Here are the pics (I've titled them) followed by brief bios (not to be confused with BIOS) of their creators (I'll put my fav above the fold and the rest below).

"Al in the Alley" Mathis Gries

About me, well, there isn't really much I can say yet. I live in germany where I'm in my last year of high-school. I consider studying philosophy once I'm finished and right now I'm trying to get familiar with the literature, primarily on the philosophy of religion (and as a result of that, I've read a number of books by Plantinga and encountered the Taj Mahal more than once in his writings).

I think I discovered the Prosblogion from Alexander Pruss' blog, which I discovered after reading his book on the PSR, but I also follow a number of other sites on the internet that deal with topics I am interested in.

This is me. I'm a graduate of theology (B Div, MTheol) and philosophy (PhD) in Dunedin, New Zealand. I'd like to tell you where I teach, but alas, I haven't cleared the hurdle of landing my first academic posting yet. In the meantime I'm making do with running Say Hello to my Little Friend, New Zealand's most popular Christian podcast - sounds more impressive than it really is (that's assuming of course that it actually sounds impressive!). I hope to teach philosophy of religion / ethics / maybe a little theology / political philosophy maybe some combination of these.

All the best

Glenn

MADE ME GIGGLE

"Plantinga the Taj Touristl" [Aparently after a trip to Yosimite.] - The Flannagan's

We are a New Zealand based couple who blog together at www.mandm.org.nz we have an about us page on our blog and individual profiles on our academic backgrounds: Matthew Flannagan and Madeleine Flannagan.

Matt discovered Plantinga in his first year at University by accidentally picking up one of his books in the library (he documents the story here, Some Autobiographical Remarks: How I Discovered Christian Philosophy and went on to draw extensively from him within both his Masters and Doctoral theses and in his publications and other writings; our blog features a lot of Plantinga, see our Plantinga tag and Matt even manages to work him into the popular writing he does in his magazine column (Matt writes a monthly column bringing philosophy of religion to lay people for Investigate Magazine - which I think is available in the US). Of our 5 large bookcases, no other philosopher features more prominently on our shelves than Plantinga.

We've been married for over a decade and Matt still says the best gift I ever gave him was the, then, unpublished manuscript for Warranted Christian Belief. His Masters thesis was due and he knew Plantinga had written it and that it was going to be relevant to his work but it was not going to be published until after his deadline. I emailed Plantinga and asked him for the manuscript - he was great and more than happy to oblige - and then I had it bound and I presented it to Matt inside a shoebox, he thought I'd given him some boots and was trying to look pleased with the gift - boy was he happy when he opened the box and saw it - we didn't have much of a Christmas holiday as his head was stuck in the book, well maybe I should rephrase that, I didn't have much of a Christmas holiday...

Suffice to say Matt is a bit of a fan. In fact, Matt is probably New Zealand's biggest Plantinga fan, certainly no one I am aware of has written more on Plantinga in New Zealand but then there are only 4 million kiwis and not that many philosophers of religion.

Anyway when we read your post Matt was laughing and going, "oh that's so true" and then he started pulling out similar features with regards the Frisian flag and Frisian references and all the Henry Kissinger references too. I don't read so much Plantinga, I read a bit but I'm more into legal philosophy of religion writers but even I had noticed the Taj Mahal and Frisian references in what little Plantinga I have read so we couldn't resist the chance to play around with photoshop.

HONORABLE MENTION

"Plantinga in Repose" - Tim the Teen

My name is Tim, I'm currently a Junior attending high school. I spend my free time reading as much about philosophy as I can get my hands on. In particular, my interests are centered toward the philosophy of religion and philosophical theology. Currently, I'm reading "The Blackwell Companion to Natural Theology" and "God and the Nature of Time." I also am a member of Rational Theism, a new group philosophy blog comprised of Christian high school and college students.

OK fixed the images for you.

Wow. I just scrolled down the page so see all of the pictures, then "Plantinga Rampage" came out of nowhere and took me completely by surprise. Brilliant - just brilliant.

My personal favorite is "Plantinga Rampage." However, I really want to know if Plantinga saw these and if so, what was his response?
