A Philosopher's Poem for All Hallow's Eve

For Ed Wierenga's Readings in the Metaphysics of Modality class today I sported a home-made costume and decended upon the class with these words:

THE MODAL INTUITION FAIRY...trent dougherty

I am the fairy of modal intuition.
And for philosophers I do go a'fishin'.
I catch some here, I catch some there...
I even catch some at their prayers:
"That than which no greater can be concieved."
My own work, do not be decieved!
But one man for avoiding me always is a'braggin:
Yes, you guessed it: it's Peter van Inwagen.

Pictures of me in the costume are forthcoming...

What a hoot! I can't wait to see pictures of you dressed as a fairy.

Ha ha. Nice! Today some friends and I were thinking of Halloween costume ideas for lazy philosophers:

1) Denizen of a Chalmers-style zombie-world

2) Swamp-you (created no doubt by lightning striking a stump)

3) Resident of Twin Earth

4) Counterpart in closest Lewis world

5) Advanced turing machine

6) Someone who had a chip implanted in his brain such that, if he chose to dress up for Halloween, the chip would cause him not to dress up (are you morally responsible for not dressing up?)

8) Someone who exemplifies my accidental properties but not my essential ones.

9) If someone asks me at t what i am, i'm the temporal part of myself at t-1 (the instant before).

more Halloween costume ideas for philosophers:

10. Bat (finally we might know what it's like)

11. Max Black's Balls (this one requires a friend--or does it?!?!?)

12. Goat-stag/Round square/Golden Mountain

13. Hesperus-Phosphorous (the costume should appear to change depending on whether it's dark or light out)

14. Detached Rabbit Part

15. Present King of France

16. Burdian's Ass (can't decide which candy to eat)

Trent,

I have to congratulate you on the feat of (almost) rhyming "van Inwagen". Bravo! ;-)

Modally,
Dale

PS - I don't see any Trent-faerie pics up yet! Pony up!

Trent - Where are the pictures? I'm beginning to wonder if you were just pulling our communal leg.

Nice diamond-and-box motif. :-)

I'm glad someone noticed that!
